Q. Where do travel writers go on holiday?

A. Far from the madding crowd but not exhausting long haul. I’m in the process of putting together a trip to this awesome-looking island. Ten points if you can name it (clue below).

Clue: it is the choice of hikers and many a New Age German but not too far from a major package holiday destination for the Brits. And that green bit in the middle? It’s a rainforest. Answers on a postcard (or in comments)…

  1. Ooooh. Ooh. Is it near the Canaries? It looks pretty … volcanic.

  2. Might be wrong but that really looks like La Gomera. If it is, went there in the summer of 1999 and met a librarian, Janine. She was really nice.

The island is also very steep in places, if I remember right; we did some walks into the remote parts (it was just about all remote).

Happy days. Hope yours there are good, too.

  3. Those librarians get into all the nooks and crannies. I’m a bit nervous to drive there, hopefully not too scary. :/
